Makes sense, but I don’t see why everyone whines about white being a ‘default’. Something has to be the default, that’s how people’s brains work. Nobody wants to see the sign on the ladies’ room and think “Wow, I wonder if it’s white or black”. White IS the default for a lot of people.

ReplyDeleteankhensen, you should see an interview (if there was in English) of an actress in Brazil who's acting in a play she wrote herself (based on some story I'm unaware of) about a little black girl in times of slavery. So, the white actress tells on the interview that she's playing the part of the black girl (yes, painting her skin) because she doesn't see any problem on that since her white grandfather helped black people back in his days. Now, that's another EWWW!

It takes a lot of...idk something, to seriously say that one of the smallest racial/ethnic groups in the entire world should be the default. That bitch needs to check herself.

This! Whites don't get they are a minority, simple as that. I am against seeing any racial group as "default" and "neutral", but it gets extra weird when minority is seen as such.
Which brings us, in a way, to issue of Uhura in the fanfic. White writers don't understand most of the mixed people in future will not be part white. Even without racism and with all good intentions, there is simply not enough of whites. Don't they understand it?
*Don't get me wrong, I don't see Uhura as part white. But she is often portrayed as suvh in the fanfic.
