Fans will recognize Ruth Negga as Nikki, the ill-fated teleporter from Misfits (which, ever since spoilers were recently shared here at the bar, I've promptly stopped watching). Nikki was Curtis's beautiful second girlfriend after Alisha, who took a bullet to the chest a la Jaden from Nikita (yes...still bitter), and died in his arms at the end of the second season.
And despite Curtis's passionate vows to find a way to bring her back, by the end of the third season, he ain't got jack to show for it.
But I digress.
Ruth is an Irish actress of Ethiopian descent, in case her exquisite features and bouncy curls have you wondering.
Ruth is actually doing well, considering how young she is (about 30). Unfortunately, despite all her work, not much of it's available on Netflix yet. Which majorly blows considering how much I want to see her play something completely different from Nikki.

That bullshit with Jaden was just that: bullshit. She was OWNING Alex's pasty ass. I'm considering if I even want to continue watching.
ReplyDeleteRuth's gorgeous. I want her hair.
*removes misfits from queue*
ReplyDeleteshe is gorgeous though.
I didn't know she had such beautiful hair! Makes me like her even more in a very shallow way. I was drooling all over Nikki's awesomeness. Don't really understand why she got killed off... I guess they only wanted one power couple on the show. Alisha and Simon's relationship would probably have seemed very bland in comparison to the Nikki/Curtis dynamic.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Love/Hate yet? I'm very curious to see Ruth and Robert Sheehan aka Nathan from Misfits as an on-screen couple.

I know exactly how you feel.

Merry Xmas
By the way, this is my 600th post. Yay me!
ReplyDeleteAlisha's death was at series 3 finale so whether I'll be watch next season is up for debate. I really did love Simon and Alisha's relationship, and I felt like the way the season ended was some epic tragic romeo and juliet type ish. So while I'm said my ship is gone, I don't think it could have ended in a better way. If their story were in a book it would be a classic. And that's what I want for my fav couples, really well written beautiful love stories.
ReplyDeleteAnd come one now we need it would happen. Time travel always ends in tragedy. Otherwise Simon would never go back in time and make her fall in love with him in the first place.
She's in "Breakfast on Pluto" with Cillian Murphy. Maybe that"s on Netflix? That's the first movie I ever saw her in and I thought she was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThe third season is the last season I watched the final episode yesterday and it was underwhelming.
I think there was problems behind the scenes. I heard Negga left because she had other obligations, she's apparently working on a film or another T.V. series. Apparently Misfits only has one main writer or something. So when it works it's excellent but when it doesn't work the flaws are that much more noticeable too.
I thought that was so weird how the writers just completely dropped that story line. It seemed so random too.

ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much for that! Put such a smile on my face.
Happy New Year everyone!

ReplyDeleteThank you! Now if I could only find a way to catch that show... But I have a feeling it's not as good as I'm hoping anyway.
Congrats on your 600th post! Keep them coming, we all appreciate it =D
Yes, she has a powerful onscreen presence that makes me want to see everything she's been in. Also, she's actually half Irish, half Ethiopian and raised in Ireland.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think Misfits 3 is still worth seeing, despite some of the problems I had with it. The Simon/Alisha storyline was exquisite, Seth/Kelly not so much (though Seth is quite pleasing to the eye, so I'm not complaining), and Curtis/Nikki could have been a great storyline as well if the writer(s) followed through on it. Thank goodness for fanfiction.
