I agree. There are millions of MOC in this very nation and yet the media wants Black women to consider white men as great options while the very men whom the media wants us to consider don't take Black women seriously due to racist/sexism they created throughout American history. I find this disingenuous and insulting.

Funny you should ask; posting-wise, that was actually next on my list. Not only do articles like that encourage BW to date/marry WM, but they're actually trying to "frighten" us into it by focusing on our supposedly epic loneliness, our growing rates of childlessness, and overall decreasing marriage rates.

Which brings me to another issue: I don't see these articles urging black women to date more Latino and Asian men--in fact, those two groups are pointedly absent from such articles. In fact, only scholastic/sociological articles (you know, the ones not commonly accessible, distributed, and/or advertised) and race-related blogs seem to suggest black women should look to other MOC. Quite naturally, I find this deliberate neglect very interesting, since whites are steadily becoming a minority in America, while Latinos are slated to be the next majority, and Sino-African sociopolitical relations are strengthening on at the global level.

Is this a new form of "divide and conquer"? Or is this an attempt to assimilate a group of [now] typically educated and well-paid individuals in order to better control their economic power? Inquiring minds want to know!

In the meantime, white guys blogging about black women don't exactly say the healthiest things (this is actually the core the upcoming post). Which simply supports what you're saying: these articles "encourage" us to date white guys, but I don't see white guys lining up in droves or blogging about serious social and historical issues pertaining to BM/WM relationships.

As usual, the "unpleasant history" is just another thing to be denied and glossed over (or deflected to make it seem like we're the ones who've always had issues).

Another article that's distubing to me is the Washington Post article urging Black women to date/marry White men without dealing with historical baggage and current racism/white privilege. Such article insults Black women and Black people in general as if we're in bad shape and that a great "white saviour" comes along and save Black women when the record with regards to BW/WM are atrocious and abusive. I don't see the Post talking about it. All they're telling Black women is to ignore history and racism to date a WM. I'm sorry, I rather date MOC in addition to BM. Some WM too, as long as they know what they're getting into and are aware of racism/white privilege and not bash Black men/Black people in the process.

What are your thoughts?
